SUMMARY:Representation Matters: Addressing the Latinx Leadership Crisis in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:THE CONSORTIUM ON RACE\, GENDER & ETHNICITY Presents\nRepresentation Matters: Addressing the Latinx Leadership Crisis in Higher Education\nThursday\, October 29\, 2020 2-4pm\, RSVP by October 21\, 2020 https://go.umd.edu/imM\n \nSpeaker: Dr. Michelle M. Espino Associate Professor\, Department of Counseling\, Higher Education\, & Special Education University of Maryland\, College Park \nModerator: Dr. Lorelle Espinosa Program Director Alfred P. Sloan Foundation \nDiscussant: Dr. Marie Mora Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs University of Missouri – St. Louis \nDiscussant: Dr. Deborah Santiago CEO\, Excelencia in Education \nWith the increasing shifting demographics in higher education\, colleges and universities must be prepared to engage in equitable practices that foster persistence and success for all groups\, but most critically\, Latinx/a/o student\, faculty\, and administrator populations. This presentation seeks to highlight major national and local issues that disproportionately hinder access to senior leadership roles for traditionally and historically underrepresented faculty and administrators. \nThe Qualitative Research Interest Group (QRIG) is a working group of faculty and graduate students who use qualitative methods in their research. Central to the work of QRIG is a focus on the intersectional dimensions of inequality and a commitment to racial and class equity and social justice. QRIG seeks to raise the profile of mixed qualitative methodologies as an important component of a research design in order to capture the lived experiences of understudied populations. \nFor more information\, contact Wendy Hall at hallw@umd.edu. \nDownloadable Flyer for Representation Matters
